WHY DONATE

YSOP is committed to helping young people become part of the solution to societal problems by showing them how even their smallest actions can make a difference in the lives of others. Our students' participation is an integral part in providing valuable services to hungry and homeless people in New York City and Washington, DC.

Because program fees cover only half of the cost of our programming, YSOP depends on the generosity of individual donors to further our mission of promoting volunteerism among young people.

Your generosity will mean a lot to our young volunteers and the thousands of people they serve.  Your tax-deductible gift will mean we can continue to offer high quality service learning experiences to a broad range of young people.

WHAT YOUR DONATIONS DO

Your donation now can make it possible for more young people to experience YSOP in the coming year.  Here’s how your gift helps:

$100 will provide a scholarship for one teenager to attend a YSOP program where he or she can serve in a soup kitchen, food bank or drop-in center and serve hundreds of  people in one weekend.

$130 will enable college students on our Alternative Break Service Weeks to provide recreation programs for homeless children in family shelters.

$250 will provide dinners for 50 homeless men and women who stay in neighborhood shelters.  YSOP volunteers prepare and share these meals, during which, as one   volunteer wrote, “the title ‘homeless’ is soon forgotten, and we have a good time, sitting and talking as equals – which is what we are.”
